Crystal Castles Rush Release New Album

Crystal Castles will be rush releasing their sophomore album (via NME). Originally slated for a June release, the disc will see digital daylight this Friday April 23rd due to an early online leak. Great move in my opinion, something MGMT (the band) thought about doing, but MGMT (management/record label) fought against. See what I did there? Play on the word management... Good stuff.
They kind of look like birds.

No Age Live @ Sweatstock in MIAMI

Sweatstock was a huge success. It was such an AMAZING day for all of Miami. Kids, adults, artists, bands, store proprietors, old people, drunk people, straight edge people (a lot of Minor Threat t-shirts)...
Great job Sweat Records!

Thom Yorke Does Joy Division

Love Joy Division. Not really a huge Thom Yorke fan or Radiohead fan (I know, I'm soooo terrible, sorry, next time). But this feels like a very special moment from Thom Yorke & Atoms For Peace pre-Coachella gig last night. FLEA has blue hair.

Apple I Love You, But You're Bringing Me Down

I play music in iTunes on my MAC computer before installing it onto my iPod. I have the potential to read most newspapers and killer Faulkner novels on an iPad or iPhone (sticking with Blackberry for a while longer, big fan of the raised keyboard). Is this too much? Has apple put traditional mom/pop record stores out of business? Are they on the verge of putting book stores and libraries out of business?
Seeking Alpha has the answers to these questions and so many more.

Haiti Benefit NYC

If you're not in Miami for Sweatstock this weekend, may I suggest chartering a plane to Brooklyn for this lovely benefit:

ANR - Believe The Hype

ANR played Art Walk in Miami this past Saturday. They played "Believe The Hype" at the Eazy Street Gallery in Wynwood. The exhibition was curated by Dustin Orlando. More info available at NBC Miami. It was fun w/ a lot of new jams.

Recording In Miami

It is very bright and sunny in Miami, even in the recording studios. Gotta wear your sunnies while laying down vocals...

The Dirty Side Of The Music Business - Interns

Almost as riveting as our Surfer Blood Vs. Joy Division story, the NY Times did some actual research and interviews for a great piece on
Pretty much everyone I know in the music industry started out as an intern.
If you're not born into it, you gotta work/grind for it. Music Business school is helpful, but it seems that you can get more experience, as much networking and spend less dinero interning.
I myself started interning at a booking agency during college and in my first week I dropped a $250,000.00 check for a not-so-great Canadian band behind the copy machine. I spent 20 minutes leaning on the copy machine...learning names, acting cool, a lot of pointing at people walking by and poking behind the copy machine with my feet.
I found it.

Surfer Blood Vs. Joy Division

Being a South Florida label/blog, we LOVE Surfer Blood. In fact, ANR is playing with Surfer Blood in in a couple weeks in Bal Harbour. John Hancock of ANR is such a big Surfer Blood fan that he has been wearing their t-shirt around the studio. Every time I see it I can't help but think that I've seen that image somewhere else. Am I crazy or is this Astro Coast t-shirt 99% the same as Joy Division's Unknown Pleasures album art???
The pulses from Unknown Pleasures are transformed into waves...
for surfing...
I get it now.

Below: Joy Division.

Kind of paying homage to Joy Division, kind of too similar?
More on the Joy Division cover art available at Wikipedia.

Thanks to Transparent Blog for a mention of Plains and the "Innovator" video!

We think it's a good one as well.

Das Racist - Shut Up, Dude Mixtape

Did not think I would like this Das Racist mix tape, but it's pretty good. It's comedy hip-hop with great beats and observations on being brown.
The "Shorty Said" remix by Gordon Voidwell is a fun one.
