R.I.P. WOXY

Everyone's favorite internet radio station, WOXY, has gone dead...
Not sure if/when they'll be back.
We wish them a speedy recovery in these 'current economic realities'.

MGMT - Congratulations Conspiracy Theory

The new MGMT album, Congratulations, is fine. It is Oracular Spectacular minus the 'hits'. They reworked some jams from the Time To Pretend EP. They got some flute action on a couple songs.  They took some drugs and made a sophomore album. And in 3 years people might refer to it as the 'trippy Pinkerton'.

Conspiracy Theory - In the smartest move ever made by any band + record label, this is not the album that will be released on April 13th via Columbia Records. This is instead, a variety of B-sides.
Classic 'B-Sides Bait and Switch'.

Trouble In Mexico - MtyMx Festival Hardships

As The Village Voice reports, Todd P's Mexican party, MtyMx, is running into some problems including transportation, band cancellations and inaccurate translations of "This isn't how things work in New York".

WMC Fun Parties

Can I haz?

Miami New Times Take on WMC

Got problems with WMC?
Hilariously, so does Miami New Times - Crossfade
Here are reasons 6 - 10:

10. Computers are only meant for two things, watching porno and ordering pizza. If I see you in the club with a laptop I'm taking it and smashing it over your stupid raver head.

9. Never trust a music whose drug of choice is one that makes everything seem better.

8. We heard it was invented by homosexuals. And they weren't even embarrassed to say so out loud.

7. Haven't they ever heard of an equalizer? The bass is way too loud.

6. Their concerts sell more water than they do beer.

You can catch the top 5 over at their blog.

The Great Liars + Insound Debacle of 2010

We here at Ten Thousand Islands LOVE Liars and greatly appreciate the services offered by Insound for the past 10+ years (including a stellar 10 year anniversary party at Brooklyn Bowl this past Fall with moderately priced Brooklyn Lager). So naturally, we went for the souped-up version of Liars Sisterworld offered by Insound. The album was released on March 8th. We placed our pre-order hours after it was announced, some time in mid-February, via Insound. We got this email today:

Subject: Your Liars- Sisterworld LP Pre-Order
To: XXXXXX@gmail.com

Hey there,

I'm sorry to report that the release date for the Liars 'Sisterworld' 2XLP has been delayed until April 13th.  I have no further information as to the reason for this album being postponed sadly.

This will not affect your place in the queue for the free kit.  I'm unable to guarantee everyone will get one as the promotional item is while stocks last and we've had a phenomenal response for this new record. The
'Preparation Kit' will be distributed in order of who placed their orders first, as before, to keep things fair.  I have my fingers and toes crossed you'll get one!

If, you're shipping address or payment information will change by April 13th feel free to drop me a line and I'll be more than happy to update your details.

However, due to the delay, our friends at Mute are allowing us to deliver you the MP3s of the entire record (because you pre-ordered through Insound) now!  Please find the download link below.  Due to the nature of downloads, if you would like to cancel your order, don't download the MP3s and please contact me asap.

Sincerest apologies for any inconvenience caused.

Warmest wishes,
XXXXXXX

So, on top of getting the album a month late, and possibly not even getting the bonus materials that was the whole point of the pre-ordering the deluxe edition, the courtesy download doesn't even include the second disc of reinterpretations, which was the OTHER reason for ordering the deluxe edition.
Does this speak to an unhealthy obsession on our part with Liars? Yes.
Is this a total bummer? Yes.

10k Islands Music Mix Volume I

We put together a stellar mix for this weekend (and also South By South West). Most of these artists will actually be at SXSW, although that wasn't the initial intent.
Unfortunately, Eric B and Rakim won't be in Austin next week and MGMT might just be doing a lame listening party...

Tracklist
01 - Eric B and Rakim - "Paid In Full"
02 - Neon Indian - "Sleep Paralysist"
03 - Foster The People - "Pumped Up Kicks"
04 - MillionYoung - "Mien"
05 - Surfer Blood - "Floating Vibes"
06 - Sleigh Bells - "Crown On The Ground"
07 - Bluebrain - "Cult Following"
08 - MGMT - Flash Delirium
09 - Panic Bomber - "Dorian Gray"

If there was some kind of way to include a video in this beautiful package, it would be this Yeasayer video for "O.N.E."

The Strokes For Lollapalooza

A guy named Greg Kot, who lives in Chicago, works for the Chicago Tribune and has a column called "Turn It Up", reports that The Strokes will be a Lollapalooza headliner. I am ready to believe him.

The Strokes and Greg Kot (not pictured)...Lots of Chicago street cred...

New MGMT - "Flash Delirium"

"This sh*t isn't that awesome"
"Kind of boring"
Things heard around the Ten Thousand Islands studio in response to this new MGMT jam available at Stereogum.

John Hancock - Antenna Death

John Hancock, of ANR, is going to be releasing a limited vinyl run of his solo album Antenna Death via St. Ives/Secretly Canadian this Spring. He has been spray painting 250 covers over the past week. The studio started smelling like fumes, so we made him move outside:

We realized that we liked the fumes and encouraged him to come back inside. He refused. What a rebel.
